Ocean acidification, caused by excess amounts of carbon dioxide as result of unsustainable industrial activity, is threatening important sea life such as coral and shellfish–and this will have a devastating effect on us all. As the recent CNN article explains, many fisheries are already struggling with the effects of ocean acidification, and nations that heavily rely on aquaculture are feeling these losses. Many of the economies that are most dependent on the ocean are those of developing countries, but the devastation of ocean acidification will be felt worldwide. According to scientists, the major changes will occur in the next 10 to 5o years, but hopefully the development of a clean energy sector will contribute to restoring the health of our oceans.
