What is Photo-Degradation?

Photo-degradation is the process by which something is broken down on a chemical level through the absorption of ultraviolet, visible, or infrared radiation (light).  This poses a problem because plastic waste will photo-degrade to an edible size and become an accidental part of a sea creature’s diet.  Since plastic cannot be digested it will accumulate in the animal’s stomach and remain there indefinitely.  To learn more check out this video from the Blue Movement.
